There is little or no off-season training and conditioning at any of the schools in this area...and that includes GC and PV. And I place the majority of the lack on the shoulders of the parents. Coaches can only do so much...they can make the opportunites to lift available, but they can't make the players participate. Plus, at least here in BSG, parents seem to know more than the coaching staff.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I played football for GC a little while back and I can assure you that we had off season workouts, we didn't start until after Christmas break because you do need a little time to get healthy after a long season. During spring sports if you didn't play baseball it was mandatory that you ran track to keep in shape. In the summer it was up to the Seniors to get everybody there and it was just understood that you have to show up. Now I don't know how things are being done there now, but I would hope they are still using the same regiment (sp?)

You take a team that has only 2 or 3 talented, skillful, athletic, however you want to say it players and play them up against another team who have twice as much talent then you can pretty much say who is going to win. But that don't mean the team that only has 2 or 3 talented players are any less than the team that had more. I would love to see what few talented players Pound does have play on a team with more heart, talent, dedication and size. I think you would see that we too have just as good players as anyone else.
Take JIB for example, they are loaded with good players all around,up front, in the backfield, and recievers and LB's. Now take all them away except 2 or 3 and see what a difference that would make. There are some players at pound that are just as good as any other player on any other team.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You are trying really hard to make an argument for the athleticism of Pounds football team this year but with what you have said you have furthered the argument that they just didn't have any players this year. Having 2-3 players is saying nothing you can say the same thing about any school at any level any year. I don't see how you can be insulted by something when you say the same thing, I guess if you took away all of Burton's players like you suggested then it would Jimbo's fault that he can't win with no players. Talent does play a part but heart, determenation, dedication, and team work out powers talent.

this whole mess shows you how much gratitude that people have. from what i remember jason mullins took this job only because no one else wanted it and he did it for the kids.

I know coach Jason Mullins and I think if it was up to the players it would never be metioned to get a new coach.

Honestly if your any other team in the LPD who cares if Pound sucks year in and year out and what the problem is, your just one team less of having to work for.

To me that says it all. If no one believes you can beat them and you don't, then your nothing but a number on a schedule.

Bottom line it takes coaches and players and all wanting the same. To Win.

    Re: Pound coaching...........

Being a Pound graduate. Having played on both Football and Basketball state runner up teams and having helped coach. Most of things i have read on here are 1. Idiotic and 2. Iditoci. First let me start off by saying. Whoever said Rocky Cantrell is part for blame for Pound athletics is the most absurd thing i have ever heard of. He is one of the best thing for Pound athletics wit has much as he donates and the discounts he gives. The problems at Pound are simple and very easy to fix.

    1. Peanut Football
People are disillusioned that because they are so grand at peanut that they are flabergasted at why they dont win in varsity or JV. The fact of the matter is you have "Parent Coaches" who run the teams and have know idea how to coach other than give their kid the ball. Sure they win, but when they get to JV and varsity and realize daddy isnt there to help they whine. When they whine their parents start whining and then the cycle begins.

    Problem #2. Parents
When i played we had spectators at our practice because we were good and the locals really took an interest. Sure there were some parents but it was mostly non-parents. However 3 years after i graduated i helped coach and i couldnt believe what i saw. There was one parent who came on to the field while practice was going on and got in the huddle and gave his son some water. The blame falls on the ?Coach for allowing that. For some reason parents whose kids excelled at peanut think their kids are destined to be great in varsity. And if their kid isnt playing they jump the coach. The best thing would be to make all practices closed practices.

    Problem #3. Coaching
I love Jason to death and he knows his stuff, but i just think he is a better AC rather than a head coach. It's not the effort, because he does try. To be the head Coach you have to run the program and there has to be know doubt about that. But its not the case at Pound. It has been so unorganized since Rocky left. Then you have Darrus Branham. He never played football. Sure he coached at UVA-Wise. When he was OC there they were horrible. Then you try to bring a college system over to kids who have been in different systems at every level. They need to make things basic and build off of that.

    Problem #4. The players
This is probably the most frustrating thing. The year after i graduated the team went 0-10 i believe or 1-9 i cant remember which. But immediatley after i graduated the kids who had never played thought that just because of the previous teams sucess things would be the same for them. Everey year they would get on this forum and say how great they were going to be year in and year out. The kids think they are great but havent proved anything other than they know how fumble, drop passes, miss blocks, complain. They just dont have the "Will factor" Talent can only do some much, sometimes you have to will yourself to suceed. They just dont seem to have the inner strength to realize they are going to have work for what they get because Daddy isnt there to give it to them.

Problem #5. Rick Mullins and Jack Hamilton
The loss of Coach mullins devastated this program. Rocky Baker was "paper coach" meaning he was great for newspapers, interviews, etc. But Rick was the fuel that burned the fire. He was the smartest and the most organized coach i have ever been around. Along with Coach Hamilton, who was a disciplinarian. Players knew not to be late, they knew not to talk back and the parents knew that the coaches were right.

I know this is like a novel. But i think Jason or whoever the next coach is needs to hold meeting for parents and players and lay down the law. Let them know from now on no more parents at practices, if they wanna watch let them pay for a ticket on friday night. Demand respect and make a schedule. Being organized would help so much. And make kids realize that while you cant make them work out in the off season their playing time will be judged by it. Get some coaches who buy in to your system and give the team a new identity. Also do whatever it takes to get control of the peanut system. Get people in their who arent parents and start running the basic plays the varsity uses so as they get older they system isnt overwhelming to them.

    Re: Pound coaching...........

This is crazy at pound. If you don't have anything to hide, let the parents watch practice.
Why all the closed practices? This seems to be the trend at Pound.
I know not everybody can "coach"but they turn away people that can actually help the program and get boys that just graduated to help"coach".This is insane. They graduate and suddenly they know everything. That to me is the biggest problem.

Id love to see someone actually say who it is that Pound has in mind or who they have to come in as a coach. No one has said anything, no reason other than "Jason doesnt do...." No one has said what he does wrong or who they want to replace him.
